Tóth – Ikonen is the oldest icon gallery in Amsterdam. The gallery is specialized in Russian icons from
16th till 19th century. The gallery arose from a hobby, a passion for collecting and most of all from the
love of icons. József and Corrie Tóth started for more than 35 years as collectors. After some time they
became gentlemen dealers and participated in fairs. Since 1980 the gallery is located in the
Spiegelkwartier in Amsterdam, the art and antique centre just across the bridge from the Rijksmuseum.
In 1995 the gallery moved to its present accommodation. At the moment the gallery is directed by their
youngest son Ferenc Tóth and his wife Christel Tóth-Aaftink.

In the gallery you will find a varying collection of Russian icons. Besides the traditional wooden icons they also present a sizeable collection of brass travelling icons. These travelling icons were carried by the Russian Orthodox believers in their pockets out of devotion and religious conviction. |
