Tóth – Ikonen is the oldest icon gallery in Amsterdam. The gallery is specialized in 16th-19th century Russian icons.
The gallery found its origin in a hobby, a passion for collecting and most of all in the love of icons. More than 45 years
ago József and Corrie Tóth set off as collectors. After some time they became gentlemen dealers and began to
participate in fairs. Since 1980 the gallery has been located in the Spiegelkwartier in Amsterdam, the art and antiques
centre just across the bridge from the Rijksmuseum. In 1995 the gallery moved to its present location. The founders
have been succeeded by their youngest son Ferenc Toth and his wife Christel Tóth-Aaftink.
In the gallery you will find a diverse collection of Russian icons. Besides the traditional wooden icons the gallery also presents a sizeable collection of brass travelling icons. These travelling icons were carried along in the pockets of Russian Orthodox believers out of devotion and religious conviction. |

Tóth – Ikonen participates in the art and antiques fairs TEFAF Maastricht, PAN Amsterdam and Artantique in Utrecht. The annual exhibition in the Amsterdam gallery takes place from the end of September and until the beginning of October. |
