Description:
Ezekiel was one of the four ‘greater prophets’. The others are Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel.

In 597 B.C. when he was 30 years old, he was captured and was exiled to Babylon. He was called to prophecy when he saw God enthroned in a vision. In the Bible, the Book of Ezekiel starts with his vision. God commanded him to caution the Israelites, because of their sinful behaviour.

The name Ezekiel means: God will strengthen.

The Orthodox Church celebrates his festival on July 27.

The icon was part of an iconostasis.
