6. Iconostases

Description:
A miniature painted iconostasis showing five tiers and at the top five domes with Passion scenes.

The upper tier shows the patriarchs, the ancestors of Christ. In the middle we see God the Father.

On the next tier below Old Testament kings and prophets are depicted. The Mother of God is sitting on her throne in the middle.

The centre of the third tier shows Christ on His Byzantine throne. The Mother of God and Saint John are standing next to Him, on each side flanked by apostles and evangelists.

The fourth tier shows Church festivals of the Orthodox year.

The Royal Doors form the centre of the lower tier. Above these doors the Last Supper is depicted. At the left side we see the Baptism of Christ, the Holy Trinity and the Vladimirskaya. On the opposite side Christ the Savior, the Dormition and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. In the arches are standing the Archdeacons Stephen and Laurence.
